Design Principles

  • If you're not designing inclusively, you're not designing

As a partially sighted designer with my guide dog Murphy by my side, I have a deep awareness of the ongoing and situational challenges involved in accessing technology.

  • Do the hard work to make it simple

Making stuff easy to use is hard work. Be prepared to challenge orthodoxy, company culture, compliance and technology. You won't always win, but it will always be worth it.

  • Root out bias and assumptions

Question your own design decisions and those of others. Replace bias and assumptions regarding context, technology, users and usage with user research and analytics.

  • Design in the open

Involve others on your design journey. Talk to everyone, seek out allies and nurture an environment in which everyone feels able to contribute.
